You can sit around waiting for your break or you can knuckle down and get the work done. One wishes for opportunity. The latter prepares for it.

Most often opportunity arises not through odds but proof. Great work generates attention and attention generates opportunity.

True craftsmen are scarce and worth their weight in gold. They develop the skills, learn the tools and put in the hours. They learn the ropes and fibres, and abstain from shortcuts. They consider themselves to always be learning and always be refining.

Eventually they make themselves so rare that customers are prepared to queue. In essence, they become the referee of their own game.
